Sir,
ML
I have the hemour te solnewledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th. instant on the subject of the nationality of Yeap Bang Keon, in which you observe that the sanirudi ekor statemente of my predecessor indicate want of sinserity on his part and that you decline to recognise Teap Bang Xoon
as a British subject.
In reply, I beg to point out that the circumstances of the case are not such as te warrant any such reflexion on Kr. King's bona fides. He has more than once explained to you with great frankkinous his views on the case, but the instructions since reosived from His Majmty's Minister at Poking are quite definite : it has been decided that Teap Beng Keon is a British subject, and I therefore have the honour to request that you take due note of this decision and of the fact that he is subject to the control of this
office only.
I have eta.
